Up until last years' first federal Poverty Reduction Strategy StatsCan was calculating and publishing the Low-Income-Measure (LIM) as a non-official poverty line. This is how poverty lines are compared between countries. The Poverty Reduction Strategy, however, introduced the Market Basket Measure (MBM) as our Official Poverty Line. Unsurprisingly, this switch is a huge investment in calculation instead of investing in poor people, and on top, that Official Line is suddenly lower than LIM, which means that suddenly there is less poverty in Canada...
