It is so easy for Ford, brought up in privileged circumstances and in a position of power, to cut programs designed to assist the disadvantaged and marginalized to survive.

This mean spirited government could instead ease the burden of needing to choose between shelter and food.

As a senior without a pension or medical insurance and multiple medical conditions,
I am vulnerable to the unforeseen, the catastrophic.

Social assistance is not a luxury to be cut in the name of austerity.

Any one of us could require some kind of social assistance at some point.

Those of us without a pension or medical insurance do not have a safety net in the case of the unforeseen.
